what must remain for something to be considered design?
on view all summer!
let's meet for drinks on saturday 05|09
James Van Vossel is a Belgian multidisciplinary designer whose practice spans a wide range of perspectives, making it difficult to confine him to a single category. His work moves fluidly between furniture, product, industrial, and fashion design.
Guided by the principle of achieving the maximum with the minimum, he lets the material itself become the drawing. His work is functional at its core and ingenious in ways that often remain invisible.
His collaborations include brands such as Thonet, Ligne Roset, Modular Lighting Instruments, Deknudt Mirrors, and Theo Eyewear.
pièce ludique — James’ own label
Alongside his freelance work, in which he challenges brands to move beyond conventional thinking, James extends his practice through pièce ludique, his own purist and experimental label, where simplicity is at its most intriguing.
Through this label, he reflects on and questions what design should be. It serves as an ongoing exploration of the fundamental essence of design, challenging himself to discover the minimum that must remain for something to still be considered design.
